About this New Literary Agent Spotlight series: We love spotlighting and profiling new literary agents —such as Renae Moore of Tobias Literary Agency — because they are actively seeking new writers and constructing a client list.
Literary Agent Bio: Renae Moore is a literary agent with Tobias Literary Agency. “I grew up in the Midwest, went to school in the Northeast, and reside in the South. Now all I need to do is further explore the West to round out my American tour. I grew up reading poetry and fantasy like Shel Silverstein and Marjorie B. Kellogg. I love a story that has a bit of mystery, moments of thrill, and a lot of heart. Some of my favorite TV shows and movies include: Accepted, Easy A, Earth 2, Altered Carbon Season 2, and True Detective Season 1. I have a BA in Anthropology from Syracuse University, a JD from TMCLS, and a M.Ed. from Lipscomb University. I completed editorial internships with Pink Sand Press and Tessera Editorial before joining the Tobias Agency in the Fall of 2020.
What to Submit to Renae: “I represent authors and illustrators. I gravitate to stories that pull the reader into the world from the first paragraph with an intriguing concept, interesting character, or ironic situation. If you can pull off a hat trick, then ‘you had me at Hello’
“In YA and Adult, I am interested in contemporary, speculative fiction, magical realism, mystery, thrillers, and romance. I accept novels and graphic novels. I welcome queries by #OwnVoices authors. In crime and mysteries, I want more than a police procedural. Legal thrillers, amateur sleuths, paranormal detectives are welcome. I’m interested in magical realism that has heart, humor, and adventure. I want to see the fun side of magic and scifi. I want to see suburban stories that give a peek behind the curtain of perfection.”
